Capesize rates rebounded through the week to October 30, with C5 Pacific fixtures reaching the low $15s and C3 Atlantic rates rising from the mid-$30s to the high $30s. The BCI 182 5TC climbed from $33,795 on Monday to $37,420 by Friday, with gains across major routes.
Stronger capesize rates raise the cost of moving bulk cargoes such as iron ore, coal and some grain on long-haul routes, which can feed into landed costs for feed ingredients. The effect on feed grain prices is modest because capesize tonnage carries few grain cargoes.
