A Mexican research team reported a multi-year field study of three GM maize hybrids grown across five ecological regions of Mexico from 2009 to 2013. The results found no additional risks compared with conventional maize and showed agronomic benefits in insect and weed control.
The study was published online in Transgenic Research in October 2016.
Regulatory progress toward GM maize cultivation in Mexico, the largest buyer of US corn, could eventually affect long-term corn supply and trade dynamics, but the effect on near-term prices is minimal.
After 770 past neutral report events, Corn moved a median +0.2% over 5 sessions (54% higher; middle half -1.1% to +1.6%), and +0.7% over 20.
