The Georgia Department of Agriculture has indefinitely suspended the Georgia Dock, a wholesale chicken price index, citing a lack of submissions under new reporting rules. A replacement index, the Georgia Premium Poultry Price Index, is planned for January 2017.
Suspension of a widely used regional benchmark reduces price transparency for chicken contracts in Georgia. The index change is a reporting issue more than a supply shift, so the direct effect on feed demand is minimal.
