Malaysian palm oil futures closed 2016 up 25.1 percent, their strongest annual gain since 2010. Palm kernel oil rose 85 percent and RBD palm stearin rose 47 percent over the year.
Traders said tight supply could lift prices further into the seasonal low output period.
Prices were lifted by weaker output after last year's El Nino dry weather, which tightens vegetable oil supply for feed users. Traders expect seasonal lows in output to keep palm oil firm into early 2017.
