Sunflower seed prices have been tracking Chicago soybean oil futures after early harvest pressure from producer selling and seed deliveries to crushers. Analysts expect tighter world vegetable oil supplies in 2016-17 as consumption outstrips production and stocks draw down for a fourth year, possibly the lowest since 2011-12.
Tightening vegetable oil stocks favor oil-driven pricing, which supports sunseed values and could pull acres from corn, soybeans and wheat, lifting sunflower and soyoil prices into early 2017.
