Penn State and CoBank economists expect milk prices to keep rising through summer 2017, with Pennsylvania all-milk reaching about $20.77 per cwt by September. Dairy futures imply a 2017 average $2.90 per cwt above 2016, while US milk output is still rising in most states.
Futures-implied gains and low feed costs support producer margins, but rising milk supply and limited processing capacity could cap the recovery unless exports grow.
