The Suez Canal Authority extended until December 31, 2017 its arrangement for very large crude carriers that transit the canal after partly discharging at SUMED. The lumpsum fees are $155,000 for southbound VLCCs and $230,000 for ballast returns.
The reduced-fee arrangement makes some crude tanker routings through Suez cheaper, which can marginally affect tanker freight and crude flows. The effect on feed-relevant prices is minor.
