Greece reported its first highly pathogenic H5N8 detection, in a mute swan found near the Evros River delta. Bulgaria's agriculture ministry reported eight H5 outbreaks on Dec 22, including backyard poultry and a farm, with 73 birds killed and 4,344 culled.
Outbreaks also continue in several other European, Asian and Middle Eastern countries.
Spreading outbreaks in European poultry reduce local flock sizes and can tighten chicken supply. The effect on feed demand is small because the affected flocks are limited.
