Analysis of sales data from beefbasis.com shows feeder steer prices across Great Plains states fell by differing amounts in 2016 compared with 2011-15 averages. Futures fell from about $225 per cwt in January 2015 to about $130 by January 2017.
Regional price declines differed, so feeder cattle buyers and sellers in some states faced larger losses than the futures benchmark suggests. The overall feeder price trend remains weak.
