USDA's report on the 2016 sunflower crop showed a record average US yield of 1,731 pounds per acre, up 106 pounds from 2015. North Dakota production totaled 1.14 billion pounds, up 7%, and its yield also set a record.
Oil-type yield rose to a record, while confection yield slipped slightly but remained the second highest on record.
Record yields increase US sunflower supply, which is mildly bearish for sunflower meal and oil. The effect on the broader feed complex is small.
