USDA forecasts 2016 US cottonseed production at 5.1 million tons, up 13.3% from 4.5 million in 2015. About 3.2 million tons is available for cattle feed versus 2.5 million last year, and prices are running $60 to $80 per ton below a year ago.
A larger feed-grade cottonseed supply lowers the cost of cattle and dairy rations, and suggests prices may firm only seasonally into spring.
