Sorghum continues to trade at a premium to wheat and barley in southern Queensland ahead of harvest, at about A$205/t delivered Dalby. Planted area is sharply lower after dry conditions, and ethanol demand from the Dalby bio-refinery supports prices.
Traders say bulk exports are uneconomic at these levels.
Smaller plantings and drought-hit yields tighten local supply and keep sorghum above white grains, but a strong winter crop leaves feed grain plentiful, which caps the premium for feed buyers.
