The Bank of Korea said the won had gained 5.2% against the US dollar so far in 2017, trading below 1,150 per dollar. Only the Australian dollar had risen faster among major currencies.
The gain was attributed to concerns that Trump's protectionist policies could hurt Korea's export-dependent economy.
A stronger won reduces the local-currency cost of dollar-denominated feed imports into Korea. The move reflects currency pressure rather than a change in grain supply or demand.
