Cash cattle trade was quiet on February 1 with asking prices around 120-122 in the South and 192 in the North. Choice boxed beef rose and feeder steers at Ozarks Regional Stockyards brought 134.14/cwt, while calf and yearling prices were mostly lower.
The January 1 feeder supply was reported at 26.5 million head, 2.2% above last year.
A larger feeder supply and softer calf prices point to weaker feeder cattle values, while accelerating placements could increase near-term feed grain demand.
