The Canadian Malting Barley Technical Centre reports that plentiful world grain and oilseed stocks keep pressure on malting barley prices. Australia's record crop, including about 13 million tonnes of barley, is facing logistical bottlenecks, and feed barley prices rose about US$10/tonne after a 1.5 Mt Saudi tender.
Ample global supply caps malting barley values, while the Saudi feed purchase and Australian logistics issues give feed barley some near-term support. Buyers should expect firm feed barley prices in the short run but a soft malting market.
