Australian exporters are finding solid demand for barley, and feed barley prices at Geelong rose $10 a tonne from mid-January lows to $164. Container barley shipments from Victoria increased sharply, and China imported 561,000 tonnes of Australian barley in January, its largest monthly total in two years.
Stronger export demand from China and rising feed barley prices in Australia support world barley values and reduce the bearish pressure from the record crop. Demand may keep tightening export availability for buyers.
