A World Bank report estimates that overfishing causes global marine fisheries to forgo about $83 billion a year compared with an optimal scenario, based on 2012 data. The report is an update of a 2009 study and highlights fisheries reform as a way to restore stock levels.
The report is a long-term policy analysis with no immediate effect on feed ingredient supply or prices. Stock recovery could raise fishmeal supply over time.
