Spain reported its first highly pathogenic H5N8 outbreak in poultry, on a farm in Catalonia where 723 of 17,800 birds died and the rest were culled. Egypt reported four more H5N8 poultry outbreaks and several H5N1 outbreaks, and Poland reported more H5N8 detections in wild birds.
Spain's first commercial poultry outbreak adds to the pressure on European poultry supply and could tighten chicken and feed demand in the region. The Egyptian outbreaks add to the tally of affected countries.
