Novus International has notified the public that it wants to drill a roughly 6,000-foot deep well near Green Lake in Calhoun County, Texas, to inject hazardous byproducts from a planned methionine plant. The company says the waste streams are hydroxy analog, hydrocyanic acid and 3-methylthio propionaldehyde.
The plant would produce methionine for its Alimet poultry feed additive.
A new methionine plant with its own waste-disposal permit signals added methionine capacity, which could ease supply and weigh on feed-additive prices over time. The near-term price effect is small because the project is still at the permitting stage.
