Several thousand farmers in B.C.'s Peace River region and in Alberta and Saskatchewan still have unharvested crop left from the October snowfall, which covered about 10 to 20 per cent of the crop in B.C. and 1 to 1.5 million acres each in Alberta and Saskatchewan. Quality and feed value will not be known until the crop is harvested and tested.
Many farmers also missed fall fertilizer application.
Lower-quality or lost acreage could reduce Western Canadian grain and oilseed supplies, with mould or mouse damage affecting feed usability. Quality uncertainty could tighten feed grain and meal supplies if losses prove significant.
