Chinese poultry producer Shennong reported 2016 revenue of CNY8.34 billion, up 20.1%, with net profit up 275%, crediting a squeeze in white-feathered broiler supply and higher chicken prices. Shandong Yisheng Livestock & Poultry Breeding attributed a 240% profit rise to China's ban on imported breeding birds from France and the US, which it said was pushing prices up.
Pig producer Chuying Agro-Pastoral also reported strong 2016 gains, with revenue up 66.1% amid rising pig prices and lower feed costs.
China's ban on imported breeding birds is tightening domestic poultry supply and lifting chicken prices, supporting demand for feed grains and meal from the poultry chain. Lower feed costs and firm pig prices point to improved margins that could support continued herd expansion and feed demand.
