USDA's Livestock, Dairy & Poultry Outlook reported February broiler meat production of 3.2 billion lb, about 1.7% above last year on a per-day basis. Average bird weights were marginally below a year earlier, only the third time since 2012 that weights failed to rise.
Broiler exports in February were 545 million lb, up 2%.
Higher output with lower weights signals a modest supply increase that is limited by smaller birds, so the net effect on chicken prices is small. Egg-set growth points to continued supply expansion.
