US cotton growers are pushing to include a cottonseed reference price under Price Loss Coverage in a congressional spending bill to fund the government past the April 28 deadline. The proposal would also let farmers convert generic base acres to other crops and offset costs using peanut subsidies.
If enacted, a cottonseed PLC reference price would create funding and support for cotton and cottonseed, but the bill's passage is uncertain and it does not directly move meal prices now.
