Southern Queensland sorghum prices rose to seasonal highs as buyers competed for scarce number one grade. A hot, dry summer cut yields and downgraded quality, and the total Queensland crop is expected to be well under one million tonnes, the smallest in about 20 years.
A sharply smaller crop and a shortage of export-grade sorghum support prices and push number one grade above wheat, raising feed costs for buyers who need quality grain.
