Yara International shares fell about 5.5% after the Norwegian nitrogen producer reported Q1 underlying EBITDA of NOK3.34bn, down 34% year on year and below expectations. The company blamed unplanned stops at its Pilbara and Le Havre ammonia plants and forward contracting in urea that limited gains from higher prices.
Yara's warning that Chinese output cuts may lift urea prices points to tighter nitrogen supply, which can raise fertilizer costs for feed grain growers and eventually corn input economics.
