The Irish Farmers' Association defended the Boortmalt barley contract and disputed claims by the Irish Grain Growers' Association that the premium is well below €30. The IFA cited a Boortmalt fixed price of €164/t and Glanbia green barley at €128/t for September 2017 delivery.
The dispute concerns the premium over feed-quality grain prices in Ireland, and the quoted prices show the local spread that malting buyers must pay. It does not change world barley supply or demand.
