UK Farm Business Survey data show poultry farm income fell 16% to an average of £107,000 per business in 2016. Free range egg prices fell to 88p per dozen and broiler prices dropped 23p per bird over the year.
Lower poultry margins reflect weaker product prices, though feed bills per bird fell 15%, which points to lower feed cost pressure. Producers are cutting costs and boosting productivity rather than expanding flocks quickly.
