The DRC reported its first highly pathogenic H5 outbreaks in Ituri province, suspected to be H5N8, killing 12,756 of 20,936 susceptible birds. Officials noted trade with Uganda, where H5N8 has been found, and stepped up surveillance.
The outbreak is local and affects mostly village ducks, so its effect on global feed and poultry prices is small.
