The Democratic Republic of Congo reported three outbreaks of highly pathogenic H5 bird flu among village poultry in Ituri province, near the Ugandan border, according to the OIE. The outbreaks killed more than 12,000 birds, with higher mortality in ducks than hens.
The H5N8 strain is spreading through regional poultry trade, but the outbreaks are small and local, so the effect on global feed demand and prices is limited.
