Sterling rose almost a cent against the dollar after three Bank of England policymakers voted for a rate rise in the June meeting. The Bank kept rates at 0.25%, but the 5-3 split was the closest vote for a hike since 2007.
Analysts still expected most MPC members to hold rates through the year, and the FTSE 100 fell as the pound strengthened.
A split MPC vote that raises the chance of earlier tightening supports sterling and weighs on UK equities through currency translation. The direct effect on feed and grain markets is minor.
