Oklahoma State extension specialist Derrell Peel says beef and cattle markets, strong this spring, are now weakening on seasonal pressure and are likely to struggle for about six weeks until Labor Day buying picks up. Cash fed cattle dropped more than $10/cwt and feeder cattle $10 to $12 in the past week or so.
Seasonal softness between July 4 and Labor Day plus rising second-half beef supplies (slaughter up 5.7% year to date) point to lower cattle and feeder prices, with weaker demand for feed in the near term.
