Nuseed Australia has launched its first two grain sorghum hybrids, Cracka and Rippa, aimed at growers in different regions. The launch comes after ABARES reported 2016-17 sorghum plantings fell to their lowest level in 26 years as low prices pushed growers into other crops.
New varieties may help rebuild Australian sorghum supply over time, but the near-term effect on prices is limited because the acreage decline has already happened and prices are cyclical.
