PotashCorp says fertilizer demand in North America is rising because crop prices improved after weather-driven yield cuts, prompting growers to presell inputs. It reports that potash prices have improved in most global markets since early 2017 on stronger demand and lower inventories.
Phosphate demand also grew in the first half of the year, with growth expected in Latin America and Asia.
Stronger demand and lower inventories support potash and phosphate prices into the third quarter. Higher fertilizer costs can feed through to grain and feed-input pricing for livestock buyers.
