Improved global potash demand is expected to lead India to sign costlier import contracts in 2017 than in 2016 as talks begin in the second half of July. Potash Corp and Uralkali have recently cut output to tighten supply.
China's contract with Uralkali was set at $230 a tonne, up from $219 in 2016.
Tighter supply and firmer demand support higher potash prices, which increases fertilizer costs for farmers and can shift planting economics for feed grains.
