Several African countries, including South Africa, Zimbabwe, DR Congo, Uganda and Nigeria, have reported limited avian flu outbreaks and imposed bans on poultry imports from neighbours. Local poultry traders have lost revenue for months, and chicken prices have risen in some markets such as Goma.
The bans shrink regional poultry supply and trade flows, which lifts local prices but has little effect on global feed or chicken benchmarks.
