The National Cotton Council welcomed the Senate Appropriations Committee's FY18 Agriculture bill, which includes cottonseed provisions aimed at economic relief for cotton producers. The policy would apply from the 2018 cotton crop, the last year of the current farm bill.
The NCC said it hopes the measure survives into the final appropriations bill later in the year.
If enacted, the cottonseed policy would support cotton farm income and could keep cotton acreage and ginning steady, which affects the cottonseed meal supply. Final passage is still uncertain, so the market impact is modest.
