Ajinomoto said on Aug. 3 that it reached an agreement with Meihua Holdings, a major Chinese amino acid maker, to subcontract manufacture of feed-use lysine and threonine.
Ajinomoto Animal Nutrition Group will sell both products under the Ajinomoto brand globally from fiscal 2018. Meihua is the company's second feed-amino-acid manufacturing subcontractor.
The deal rebuilds Ajinomoto's supply base for feed lysine, which could add supply options for feed buyers over time. Near-term price impact is limited because the products are not yet sold under the new arrangement.
