FAO forecasts global small pelagics landings to grow 7% in 2017 versus 2016, led by a larger Peruvian anchovy catch. Herring and mackerel landings are expected to rise about 4% combined, and Scotland has withheld 12% of its 2017 mackerel quota pending landing analysis.
Higher anchovy supply points to softer fishmeal and fish oil prices, though FAO expects only modest price changes and sees currency moves playing a bigger role. Feed buyers may see cheaper marine protein inputs.
