New Hope Liuhe, China's largest feed producer, plans to expand pig production in Sichuan, Shandong and Jiangsu over the next two years. China's pig prices fell to a two-year low of 27 yuan per kg in June, and the company's first-half profit dropped 20.9% after bird flu hurt feed sales.
Expansion into a market already heading for oversupply adds to pork supply and pressures hog prices. The buildout also raises future feed demand, which supports corn and meal use.
