Lean hog futures fell to an 11-month low on September 12 in a bear-spreading selloff linked to large U.S. hog supplies and falling cash prices. Iowa and southern Minnesota cash hogs fell $1.11 to $55.88/cwt, and October lean hogs settled at 59.45 cents/lb.
Live cattle futures also eased as packers resisted paying higher prices.
Abundant hog supplies and weaker cash prices point to lower hog values and reduced feed demand. Packers' reluctance to pay up for cattle signals softer livestock prices ahead.
