Feeder cattle futures have held above $140/cwt since April, though signs of weakening have appeared. A March 2018 feeder contract trades near $139/cwt, with technical support at $120-$122 and a put option strike at $130 offered for 5.3 cents per pound.
Large 2017 placements are expected to weigh on feeder prices into early 2018, so producers are using put options for downside protection.
