USDA's September WASDE raised the projected 2017 U.S. cotton crop to 21.76 million bales from 20.55 in August, despite Hurricane Harvey damage in Texas and Irma-related losses in Georgia. Hurricane Harvey destroyed some cotton gins in the Corpus Christi area, while Texas High Plains supplies of last year's cottonseed remain ample.
A larger cotton crop means more cottonseed available for crushing into meal, which is bearish for cottonseed meal supplies, though storm-related local losses are limited so far.
