Zimbabwe's government commissioned a study on the economic impact of avian flu, expected to finish in about three months. Irvine's, the country's largest poultry producer, culled more than 200,000 broiler parent stock after outbreaks in May and July, causing shortages of broiler chicks and table eggs.
Culling of parent stock reduces future broiler output and feed demand in Zimbabwe, a small regional market. The study itself has no direct effect on global grain or meat prices.
