CRU analysis says NP and NPK fertilizer capacity has grown quickly as producers seek better margins than in weakened global fertilizer markets. China's NP/NPK capacity rose from about 5 Mt in 2000 to about 70 Mt in 2016, with growth concentrated in physical compounds, and capacity has also expanded in South and Southeast Asia.
Expanding compound fertilizer capacity, especially in China, increases supply of NP and NPK products and can weigh on compound fertilizer prices over time.
