Oat bids in Saskatchewan firmed this week, rising five cents to a range of $2.33 to $3.04 a bushel, as harvest yields and quality came in better than expected. Harvest was over three-quarters complete after recent rains delayed progress.
Oat plantings rose to 1.66 million acres from 1.38 million in 2016.
A larger expected carryout from bigger acreage would weigh on prices, but a smaller, poor-quality 2016 carryout supports the view that prices could hold steady through the rest of the crop year for feed buyers.
