Canola crush margins in Western Canada were about $56 per tonne above the November futures contract on October 2, roughly half the year-ago level of $115 and below about $71 a month earlier. Canadian processors crushed 184,831 tonnes in the week ended September 27, at 83.4 per cent of capacity.
Weak crush margins reduce processor willingness to bid for seed, which pressures canola seed prices and tempers meal output growth. Lower meal supply could support meal prices over time.
