Rabobank projects global aquaculture output to grow 3-4 percent in 2018, with salmon volumes rising about 7 percent as Norway and Chile recover from algal bloom and lice problems. Chinese seafood production is expected to slow, while growth in Southeast Asia, Africa and India is expected to offset it.
Salmon prices are expected to fall from the record levels of early 2017 but stay above historical averages, mostly in the NOK 50-65 per kilo range.
Stronger aquaculture supply growth outside China shifts seafood supply and demand balances, which can ease prices for farmed fish. Fishmeal and fish oil demand from the sector is not quantified in the report, so the direct feed price effect is limited.
