No new confirmed avian influenza infections have been reported in the Western Cape in the past week, according to provincial minister Alan Winde. There are 63 confirmed cases to date, with about 2.8 million commercial birds culled, mostly layer hens.
Authorities are urging farmers not to restock until their houses are confirmed clean.
A slowing infection rate suggests layer and broiler supply losses may stabilise, which could ease pressure on poultry feed demand and egg prices. Restocking timing will determine how quickly production recovers.
