A Canola Digest article reports that China, the top importer of Canadian canola seed, produces about 15 million tonnes of canola on 18.5 million acres, similar in scale to Canada. It describes clubroot, a disease first found in Hubei in 2009 that has spread across China, and highlights a workshop in Wuhan on managing it.
Clubroot spread in China could eventually reduce domestic rapeseed output and raise import needs, but the effect on current canola prices is speculative and limited.
