The Baltic Exchange's main dry bulk index rose 9 points to 1,486, led by a 5.1% jump in the capesize index to 3,259. The panamax index fell 2.76% to 1,515, with average panamax earnings down $345 a day to $12,163.
Lower panamax earnings reduce the freight cost pressure on grain cargoes of 60,000-70,000 tonnes, while capesize strength mainly reflects iron ore and coal demand rather than feed grains.
